Sushi & Sunset in Cardiff
Turning 39 in Cardiff with my partner Matt was a birthday to remember! We kicked off the celebration with a visit to Yo! Sushi, a Japanese restaurant in the heart of the city centre. The experience of grabbing different coloured bowls from the conveyor belt was both fun and delightful. Each colour corresponds to a different price, and by the end of our meal, we were happily counting our plates, reminiscing about every heavenly bite from the maki to the mochi. Despite the snug seating, the excellent service more than made up for it.
After our meal, we took a leisurely stroll through the city. As the sun began to set, we found ourselves by the river adjacent to Cardiff Stadium. The sky's colours reflecting on the darkening river water was a breathtaking sight, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere.
Our next adventure led us to seek out the light sculpture near Queen Street. Although it wasn’t in action, our disappointment didn’t last long. Just a stone's throw away, we stumbled upon a beautiful building adorned with a big red bow. Inside, we discovered The Dock Feeder, a cocktail bar that turned out to be an absolute gem.
With just five minutes to spare on their 2-for-1 offer, we quickly ordered a strawberry daiquiri for me and a whiskey sour for Matt. The drinks were crafted right in front of us by a smartly dressed and knowledgeable bartender. The decor was opulent, rich, and art deco in style, making the ambiance feel luxurious.
We took a short trip up two sets of stairs to explore the vintage-esque, gender-neutral bathroom and a cosy room used for DJs and live music performances on weekends. Here, a door led us to a small but stylish rooftop terrace. Despite the bar's luxurious feel, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. While I appreciated experiencing the venue when it was quiet, I can imagine the atmosphere is electric during peak times.
This magical evening in Cardiff was full of unexpected adventures and discoveries. Celebrating my 39th birthday with Matt was a beautiful blend of culinary delights, stunning views, and hidden treasures. It was a day filled with joy, love, and a sense of wonder—truly a birthday to cherish.
